Why join 2nd Abbotsford ‘Port Neptune’ Sea Scouts?

2nd Abbotsford ‘Port Neptune’ Sea Scouts is one of the longest-running troops in Sydney and provides fun and exciting programs that promote active learning for boys and girls between the ages of 5 to 26 years.

Whether they are camping, canoeing, visiting museums or helping their local community, Scouts provides our youth with the opportunity to try new things, challenge themselves, make new friends and build independence and resilience whilst having amazing fun.

Today’s Scouts can take part in an extraordinary variety of ‘age-appropriate’ outdoor activities, from ‘traditional Scouting skills’ such as camping, bush craft, hiking and excursions, through to more extreme challenges as they get older such as abseiling, rafting, canyoning, rock climbing, sailing and even flying! Scouts also have the opportunity to become involved in performing arts, leadership development, community service, amateur radio operation, environmental projects, large-scale Australian events such as Cuborees, Jamborees and Ventures, international events, and service projects in developing countries.

As a member of a Sea Scout group, you can expect a particular focus on water based activities such as sailing, canoeing and water skiing, in addition to regular Scout activities such as camping and hiking.

Scouts is the biggest and most successful youth organisation in Australia comprising of children and adults from wide cultural and religious backgrounds. We encourage the integration of children with special needs – physical and mental disabilities or medical conditions – into regular Scout Groups. Scouting really is for everyone!

Scouting is a lot of fun and helps prepare young people for life in the adult world by teaching responsibility for their own actions and progress. These achievements lay a solid foundation for the success of our future Australian leaders. But don’t tell the kids they’re learning… they think they’re just having fun!
